Calbert is delighted and grateful to have the opportunity to crack his “knuckles” and get to work on Wasatch Theatres stage once again. Previous performance “pops” include: Flying (Pygmalion), Dumbed Down (LIT Co.), Othello (New World Shakespeare), Levee in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (People’s Productions), and several film opportunities. He would like to thank current project teammates for their efforts, and his family for supporting his time spent wandering around Utah Lake beaches…
Paul’s music career has known no borders and has spent years touring. As a soloist, he has performed nationally and internationally for audiences of all sizes. He has performed for President Ford and other world leaders at the International Peace Forum and toured for nine years with the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival. He was Music Director for Dr. Scharine’s adaptation of Caryl Churchill’s “Vinegar Tom,” that toured for a ten day East European theatre festival. Paul has worked for many years as music director for shows produced by Nan Weber. He is excited to once again be working with Nan Weber as music director on Knuckle and actor in Dr. Scharine’s adaptation of Knuckles.
Greg Carver (CESARE) Is excited to be reunited with past cast mates and make new ones in his first production with The Box. Outside of Theatre, Film and Writing he loves exploring the outdoors with his fiancé Amanda Lee.
Lainie King (“Mrs. Dunning”) is making her Utah theater debut, having recently moved here from California with her husband. Her favorite stage roles include, M’Lynn in “Steel Magnolias,” Marmee in “Little Women,” and
Mrs. Paddy in “The Curious Savage.” Her film work includes a supporting role in the feature indie film, “The Rehearsal,” and a number of student and indie short film projects. She was a member of Theatre 68 and the
LPN Acting Studio in Hollywood, and is represented by the Elevate Talent Agency here in Utah. She thanks Bill, her biggest fan, for his unwavering support and feeding their small zoo when she had rehearsal. She is also
grateful to everyone involved in “Knuckle” for making this an extraordinary experience!
Andrew Maizner fell in love with acting back in the 8th grade, when Mrs. Hinckle made him choose either detention or Drama Club. After working in academic, community and summer-stock theaters for a number of years, Andy took a hiatus to ski, tend to family and earn an actual living. Returning to the stage here in Utah a number of years ago, Andy has appeared locally as Richard Aldritch in the Utah premiere of Beth Bruner’s Gee, and as Nat, in Herb Gardener’s I’m Not Rapapport, for Holladay Arts; Gonzalo, in The Tempest, with Around The Globe Theater Company; Rabbi Binder, in Philip Roth’s The Conversion of the Jews, for BRT; as Al Lewis, in Neil Simon’s The Sunshine Boys, with Pinnacle Acting Company; as Baptista in UNIPAC’s production of The Taming of the Shrew; as Screwtape in James Forsyth’s Screwtape, produced by Silver Summit Theater; as Donald in Pygmalion Theater Company’s “A Night With the Family” at the Rose Wagner; Arthur in a staged reading of Tracy Lett’s Superior Donuts at Sam Weller’s; Vaughn in Pygmalion’s production of Caridad Svich’s play “Spark”; as the announcer/broadcaster in Thornton Wilder’s classic, “The Skin of Our Teeth” at the Grand Theater; as Dodge in, “The Buried Child”, by Sam Shepard with Silver Summit; as Joseph Potter in the American premier of Vivienne Franzmann’s searing play, “The Witness”; as Steve Hubbell in the Grand Theater’s production of “A Streetcar Named Desire”; and, most recently as Doc in Pygmalion’s production of “Flying”.
Richard Scharine is an emeritus professor of the University of Utah Theatre Department. He has directed approximately 100 plays, including 23 for People Productions, Utah’s first black theatre, of which he was a co-founder and artistic director. He has appeared locally among others for Salt Lake Shakespeare, the Grand Theatre, and Plan-B, as well as productions in seven foreign countries, including the title role in the Classical Theatre Festival’s Oedipus at Colonus tour of Greece. Dr. Scharine’s 2021 book of short stories, The Past We Step Into, is available at all the usual dealerships.
Sam Torres (Jenny) is an actor/singer songwriter from Detroit Michigan, with a BFA in Musical Theatre from Oakland University. Sam discovered Utah while living full time on the road in her van and decided she loved the mountains too much to leave. Some Past credits include Penelope Pennywise in Urinetown, Heather Chandler in Heather’s, and Texas in Cabaret. Sam is beyond excited to be performing live again and invites you to sit forward and enjoy the show. HTTPS://samtorresofficial.wixsite.com/mysite IG: Samcattorres
Nan is happy to be directing Richard Scharine’s adaptation of David Hare’s “Knuckle.” An actor, author and director she has been directing since attaining her BFA from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee in 1976 and her involvement with a Woman’s Collective in Minneapolis in the 1980s. Nan is currently co-authoring a biography about Utah architect Richard Kletting.
PROGRAM NOTES:
David Hare’s Knuckle was first staged in 1974. On a 1978 performance tour of England and Wales, I picked up a copy of Knuckle at a London bookstore after seeing Hare’s Plenty at the National Theater. Over the next 40 years I periodically re-read it, being attracted first to the noir quality of the hardboiled detective operating according to a code in a society deliberately wearing blinkers in the presence of the truth. Years later I became aware of the contrast between the open honesty of the despised gun runner, and the admiration lavished on the legislators and bankers who willingly sacrificed human lives (including their own family) on the altar of money. Finally, as I grew old myself, more and more I saw Knuckle as a family tragedy in which the twisted relationship of father, son, and daughter denied the possibility of peace and love for them all. Recovering from cancer in the autumn of 2020 I decided that what I had always thought of as an English drama was in fact a universal story, and sat down to make the surface changes that would make the play’s universal elements obvious to a local audience. How well I achieved that you are about to determine.

Beth Bruner did her first Page-to-Stage in 2007 when she directed THAED. She was a playwright for the 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2017 festivals, directed in 2009, 2011, 2015, and 2016, and had her full play KEEP-A-RUNNIN' done as a reading in 2016. She is delighted her script is being done with a live audience, not a virtual one.

This is Tracy’s second show with Wasatch Theatre Company, she also directed Closer. Tyler Fox is a Salt Lake City actor and some times playwright. He is so grateful to The Box and Wasatch Theatre Company for allowing THE GOLEM to come to life!
Ivy Frampton is thrilled to be working with Wasatch Theatre! She is a graduate from Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts and is currently attending the University of Utah. She has done lighting design and electrician work for 4 years, which includes high school and professional work. She enjoys welding, reading and driving in her spare time.
A Utah native, Jared Greathouse is excited for his return to The Page to Stage Festival this year. He first appeared at the festival in 2011 as Bee Man in Laura Neubauer’s QUEEN BEE, a short comedy which earned both audience and critical acclaim for its quirky characters and slapstick undertones. It was a production in which he put in double duty as director and actor, winning his team honorable mentions with his efforts. Now, ten years later, he once again joins the creative team at Wasatch Theatre Company with his contribution as playwright of SNACK TIME ROYALTY. Jared’s most recent effort as a Salt Lake-based playwright, A CALL TO SERVE: CONFESSIONS OF A MORMON HITMAN won multiple “Best Of” awards at the SLC Fringe Festival in 2020. Some of his past credits include WHO ARE YOU? (2012), THE SECRET LIVES IF CLOWNS (2015), and WAITING FOR THE WORLD TO END (2016). He is grateful to still be dabbling in the theatrical arts during such odd times and honored to be a contributing member of WTC’s 2021 Page to Stage Festival, alongside a group of such magnificent local playwrights and artists.
Elizabeth Hanley was last seen as Rhonda in THE OPEN SYRUP and is absolutely thrilled to be getting back onstage this summer!
Chelsea Hickman is a playwright, actor and the literary manager for An Other Theatre Company in Provo, UT. Her work has been performed at festivals, university stages, and in community theatres across Utah valley. She holds her MFA in Creative Writing and Writing for the Performing Arts from University of California, Riverside and her BA in Theatre Arts Studies from Brigham Young University. In her spare time, you can find her cuddling her two cats, Luka and Zoey, and laughing way too hard with her husband.
Ryan Humeniuk is a recent graduate from Jordan High School in Sandy, Utah, who will be attending Ohio University’s Honors Tutorial College in the fall. The Sinner is Ryan’s first play, but he’s also had some of his other plays performed by Jordan High’s theatre department and SLCC. He hopes to continue his writing in college, and he wants to thank those who have supported him in his work.
Michael R. McGuire--My play IT COMES FROM BEYOND! was produced by Horse Trade Theater in NYC in 2012. I was awarded a 2005 CT Artist Fellowship for my comedy THE NEW GIRLl. Oat, and others.
George Plautz is one of the directors. George is returning to Wasatch after a three-year hiatus creating a drama program for a high school in Nanjing, China and another year paused due to the pandemic. He has been writing, acting, directing and producing for the theatre for more than 40 years - 20 of them with Wasatch. A few of his favorites with Wasatch were GREY GARDENS as director, STORIES OF HAWAII as playwright and HANDS UP as playwright/lyricist and director. He helped create Bookspeak Theatre Company and The Starry-Eyed Puppets which performed in numerous locations in the greater Salt Lake area. Before going to China, George retired as director of the English Language Institute at the University of Utah where he directed more than 75 productions with his ESL students. Most recently for Wasatch he performed in HAPPY and wrote a play for last year's virtual Fringe Festival which was named best in its category. He has been chosen for a month-long residency at the Writer's Colony at Dairy Hollow, Arkansas to work on a new musical.
Jesse Plautz is a local entrepreneur and part time artist. His works are saturated with obviousness, mental inertia, clichés and bad jokes.
Geoff Richards has been in several productions in the Salt Lake valley over the years, with roles in THE FOREIGNER, SEE HOW THEY RUN, HONEYMOON AT GRAVESIDE MANOR for Sugar Factory Playhouse, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST for Midvale Main Street Theatre, and in FROZEN for Pygmalion Productions. Geoff has also done voiceover work for the National Park Service and worked in short films.
Cami Rozanas is a marketer who loves theatre and is lucky enough to get on stage occasionally. Over the years, WTC’s Page-to-Stage has been a favorite. This will be her 5th festival as an actor (she’s lost count of the times as an audience member). Some of her recent productions include THE OPEN SYRUP, MY GAY BAPTISM, and MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING.
Originally from Scotland, Morag Shepherd is one of the producers and resident artists of Sackerson, and holds an MA in Theatre Criticism from Brigham Young University. She is a member of the Plan-B writers lab, where her play FLORA MEETS A BEE (NEA recipient) toured throughout Utah schools, and NOT ONE DROP (David Ross Fetzer grant recipient) has performed. Her play DO YOU WANT TO SEE ME NAKED (Critics Choice Award, and Best Solo Performance) has performed in Salt Lake City, Tucson, and The United Solo Festival in New York City. Her site-specific play, CHERRY WINE IN PAPER CUPS performed outside the Salt Lake City library last summer, her immersive play, A BRIEF WALTZ IN A LITTLE ROOM performed throughout 2019 in Salt Lake City (The Utah Review top ten moments of 2019), as part of a collaboration with Umbrella Theatre Company and the Utah Arts Alliance. Currently Morag is working on an immersive theatre festival where a new piece, SIMPLE MACHINES, will perform. Morag is a member of the Dramatist Guild and the New Play Exchange.
This is Madeline Thatcher's first Page to Stage festival, and she’s excited to participate. Madeline wrote for the 2021 Youth 24-Theatre Festival earlier this year and is happy to be back on the stage this time around. Some of her favorite past roles include Hermia in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, Nora Powers in CHAINS OF DEW, Estelle in John Paul Sartre’s NO EXIT, and Diana Barry in ANNE OF GREEN GABLES. She’s grateful for the theatre community here in Utah for being so welcoming and is looking forward to live performances getting back into full swing.
