Geoff Richards is happy to return to the stage for Wasatch Theatre Company, his last time being the 2021 Page to Stage festival. Geoff been in several productions in the Salt Lake valley over the years, with roles in The Foreigner, See How They Run, Honeymoon at Graveside Manor, One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, and Frozen. Geoff has also done voiceover work for the National Park Service, and worked in short films.
Meet Georgia Bowen Buchert, one of this year’s playwrights! This is Georgia Bowen Buchert’s third rodeo, playwriting for The Box’s 24-Hour Theatre Fest, and she’s thrilled to be back in the saddle! During the pandemic, she wrote and performed with sketch comedy group The Darned, began remotely studying Method Writing with mentor Jack Grapes and The Los Angeles Poets and Writers Collective, and dreamed about the time she’d be able to reassemble her Black Dog Writers for more in-person experimental workshops. It feels great to be doing theatre again. Georgia wishes to thank everyone at The Box for this change to return to the theatre and play.
Jeffrey is thrilled to be returning to the Twenty-Four Hour Theatre Fest for a third year. Jeffrey was last seen Kalisti Theatre's productions of The Open Syrup Episodes 2-6. He has appeared as Vanya in Vanya And Sonia And Masha And Spike and Ted in Ideation (Wasatch Theatre) Jeffrey has appeared in The Grand Theatre’s productions of Jekyll and Hyde The Musical as Sir Danvers Carew, and Doctor Douglas in Ms. Evers’ Boys. Other favorite roles include Iago in Othello and Shylock in Merchant Of Venice (New World Shakespeare), Horace Vandergelder in Hello Dolly and Walter in Don’t Drink The Water (Centerpoint Legacy Theatre),Tom in Glass Menagerie, Roat in Wait Until Dark and Tin Man in The Wizard Of Oz (Egyptian Theatre Company) Herb in I Ought To Be In Pictures (Utah Theatre Artists Company) and Carmichael in A Behanding In Spokane (Hive Theatre) Jeffrey is a graduate of The Actor Training Program at the University Of Utah and has BFA in Theatre. One of the actors in this year's festival is Melody Baugh! Melody is a NYC based actor/vocalist recently moved back to Utah. She’s done lots of crazy things including riding her motorcycle across the US, but is sure this 24 hour Theatre Fest will be one of them! Melody spent several years sailing the world singing on cruise ships. She was seen most recently as “Mertis” in John by Annie Baker with the ThreePenny Theatre Company. Elise C. Hanson is a local producer, playwright, novelist, actor, dialect coach, and comedian. She has been involved in theater since she was a child, and she doesn't see any signs that she'll stop anytime soon. She started writing plays in 2014 and has since written over 30 plays and has seen 21 of them produced by local theater companies. She has won recognition for her plays, earning a total of four awards at the Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival for three of her comedies. She loves to be a part of the ever-expanding Salt Lake City theater scene, writing a blog about local performance art called Utah Theatre Chat. She has worked on the board of New World Shakespeare Company since 2015 and in 2017 started her own theater company, Kallisti Theatre Company. She works as an administrative board member for The Box, a performance art space downtown in The Gateway She believes in artists helping artists, and to that end hopes to help the throngs of Wasatch Valley artists find and befriend one another. With fellow actor Jeff Stinson, she runs a group aimed at encouraging the theatrically-inclined to make commitments to attend one another’s shows, known as The Salt Lake Society of Seeing Things and Eating Things. She is currently amid a run of her one-of-a-kind serial play series The Open Syrup while simultaneously preparing to play Viola in Twelfth Night. She will see the return of her award-winning comedy The Secret Son of Hitler this summer, and this autumn, Kallisti Theatre Company will launch both parts of Tony Kushner’s ambitious Angels in America.
One of this year's playwrights is Charlie Belusa. Charlie (she/her) is a playwright, screenwriter, prose writer, bridge player, student, and educator. She has a B.S. in Psychology and is currently pursuing an M.F.A. in Writing for Performance. Charlie is a three-time KCACTF 10-minute play regional finalist, and was awarded Best Regional Monologue in 2018. Her plays have been performed by Utah New Works Theater Project as well as The Box at The Gateway. Charlie is learning to speak Chinese, play the accordion, and throw a punch. So far none of her four houseplants has died.
Heather Nowlin is a communications professional by trade, Heather’s written but as-yet unproduced work includes five spec episodes of the genre TV series Raising Kayn and two episodes of the Richard Dutcher comedy web series The Players. Theatre credits include A DOLL’S HOUSE, PART TWO (dramaturg), SLAC; LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (dramaturg), THE GLASS MENAGERIE (director), and BLITHE SPIRIT (director) at Southern Virginia University; THE LION IN WINTER (ASM) at Lime Kiln Theatre, Lexington, VA; CRIMES OF THE HEART (assistant director), A DOLL’S HOUSE (director, staged reading) at StageRight Theatre; and 8 years as Assistant Marketing & Publicity Director for over 50 shows at Pioneer Theatre Company. She was also honored to oversee the 2014/15 Utah Screenwriters’ Project at Salt Lake Film Society. BA, Performing Arts/English, Southern Virginia University. Jeff was most recently seen in the open syrup episodes 3 and 4. Favorite roles include Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Macduff in Macbeth with New World Shakespeare company. Jeff is the CTO for holiday oil and lives in sugarhouse with his amazing son James.
Carly Welch is a graduate of Salt Lake Community College with a degree in Theater Arts. She has been acting since a young age with her most recent credits being The Open Syrup at Wasatch Theater, Crucible at Kensington Theater. She will be in the upcoming film Animus. She loves her puppy more than anything and Theater is a close second.
Beth Anne Service is a film and stage actor who has done numerous projects. Most recently, she has starred in STEEL MAGNOLIAS at The Empress Theatre, THE SEAGULL at Salt Lake Community College, YARD SALE as part of another 24-Hour Theatre Festival, and BONDING DAY at The Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival. Beth Anne has been a guest on the podcast "Wholehearted Coaching."
Daniel Torrence's past roles include Chuckles in A Thousand Clowns, Uncle Charlie in August, Osage County, Jack London in Stories of Hawaii, The Inspector in The Real Inspector Hound, Col. Frisbee in Teahouse of the August Moon, Barnaby in Hello Dolly, Frederick in Enchanted April. Daniel also loves making props, and enjoys fake blood more than is good for him.
Jady Proxy is so excited to be working with the Wasatch Theatre Company again! Following her role of Janessa in “Teacher Truths”, Jady has been working behind the scenes, in the planning of the Wasatch Improv Festival 2022. Jady would like to thank her fellow artists in this project, her family, and Russ, for all the support.
Kassandra Torres is back at The Box with another opportunity to facilitate telling a brand new story as a director with friends, old and new. She has spent her adult life performing, and has fallen in love with being on the other side of the production table as a playwright and a director. She wants her family, kittens, and the people who provide her with her Spark, to know she loves them with everything she has.
Cami loves being part of the 24 Hour Theatre Festival and is excited to be back on the stage this year. While pursuing her chronic theatre habit, Cami has been lucky enough to perform with several SLC-area theatre companies including New World Shakespeare, Wasatch (WTC), Kallisti, ThreePenny, and Silver Summit. She is currently in rehearsals for “The Open Syrup Episode 5: The Musical!” which performs at The Box on March 25-26 and April 1-2.
Sierra Shepard is currently studying elementary education at western governor's university. However, she also loves getting on stage at any given chance. Sierra has been in a few shoes outside of 'The Box'. Her favorites being 'Festival Dionysia' and a prior '24 hour theater festival' with Salt Lake Community College. Sierra would like to thank 'The Box' for allowing her to join the theater festival, and for the thrilling experience of putting together a show in such a short time.
Tami has spent most of her time behind the scenes and is so excited to step in front of the curtain and perform in 24 hour festival. She has an MFA in Film focusing on screenwriting. She feels like she has found her home here at The Box.
Jonah Kirkhart is a writer, director, and actor. He’s the artistic director of ThreePenny Theatre Company (@threepennytheatre) a non-profit organization and co-founder of Busking Bus Theatre Company (@buskingbustheatre). His written works include The Tragedy of Norton the First, An American in Beirut, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, and an upcoming adaptation of The Legends of Sleepy Hollow. He’s directed several others including 21 Chump Street, Becky Shaw, and John.
Last seen as Audrey in ‘Uninhabitable’ when it was a part of the 24 Hour Theater Festival in December of 2019 and it's reprisal for the 2021 Fringe Festival, as Beatrice in New World Shakespeare Company’s production of ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ in September 2019. She has spent many summers with Utah Children’s Theater and their Shakespeare Festival and years playing with improv troupes Quick Wits and Laughing Stock. This is Allison's first foray into directing and she is so excited to have worked with a phenomenal cast and playwright!
